Credit where credit is due

Harper did something right.
Parliament on Wednesday unanimously passed a motion to designate Burma's democracy advocate, Aung San Suu Kyi, an honorary Canadian citizen.

Prime Minister Stephen Harper presented the motion in the House of Commons, calling her a "symbol of the desire of the Burmese people for political freedom."

While it's a largely symbolic gesture, it carries the weight of sending a clear message to the junta ruling Burma. Not that it's likely to have much effect with that crowd.

Apparently Rob Anders was busy picking lint from his navel. That or someone gagged him. He had nothing to say about the conferring of this distinction, unlike his reaction to Nelson Mandela receiving the same honour.
